A man robbed a Rock Hill gas station early Thursday morning by threatening to use a can of sulfuric acid on the clerk, police say.
The clerk was working at Kangaroo Express at 499 S. Herlong Ave. when a man walked in about 3:30 a.m. and went to the drink cooler, according to a Rock Hill police report.
He brought an energy drink to the counter, took out a $5 bill and began to mumble. When the clerk asked him what he said, he mumbled again before pulling out a can from his pocket. He told the clerk it was sulfuric acid and demanded money from the register, the report states.
The clerk gave the robber $90 from the register, and he fled on foot toward West Main Street, the report states. Officers set up a perimeter and tried tracked him with a K-9 unit but were unsuccessful.
Detectives have obtained surveillance footage from the robbery, the report states. The robber is described as a man between 40 and 50 years old, about 6-foot tall and 190 pounds. He has gray hair and a goatee and was wearing a dark hoodie and jeans at the time of the robbery.
