Report: Man robbed Fort Mill Food Lion, stole employee's Jeep

 - The Herald
 --
Police responded to an armed robbery Thursday night at a Fort Mill Food Lion.
Employees were leaving the store at 1360 Hwy. 160 East next to Springfield Parkway, when a man who "acted as if he was armed with a handgun" ordered them inside, according to a Fort Mill police report.
Once inside, he took money and demanded keys to one of the employee's 1992 Jeep. The suspect left in the stolen vehicle, the report states.
The Jeep was later found unoccupied in the parking lot at Springfield Middle School, according to Capt. Bryan Zachary of the Fort Mill Police Department. The keys were in the ignition and a GPS was stolen from the Jeep.
A K9 unit was called to track the suspect, but was unsuccessful. He likely left the school parking lot in another car, Zachary added.
“They had another vehicle waiting there, or had someone pick them up there, one of the two,” he said.
The unknown robber is described as between 18- and 25-years-old, about five feet, five inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds.
Police are checking video surveillance from the school, Zachary said. They were also working to get video surveillance from Food Lion. It has to be obtained through the company’s home office in Salisbury, N.C.
